The Rise of Non-Invasive Cosmetic Surgery in 2012


There continues to be an increasing demand for non-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2012.

The Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia (CPSA) estimates that $645 million was spent in Australia on non-surgical treatments in the year up to April 2012. This was a 15 percent increase from the previous year. It was only $300 million, five years ago. The Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery (ACCS) got a similar result.

The International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) outlined non-invasive surgery trends for 2012, including an increased demand for ‘combination’ treatment packages, laser rejuvenation, medical skin care and non-invasive body contouring. It sees the non-invasive market as continuing to grow throughout 2012.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), cosmetic procedures increased by nearly 9% during 2010. Non-invasive procedures accounted for 83% of the total number of procedures. The top five non-invasive treatments included hyaluronic acid, laser skin resurfacing and laser hair removal. Americans spent $3.8 billion on non-invasive treatments in 2011.
